A bit of history...
Halifax BBGB has to be one of the oldest marching bands in the whole of England!
Years ago, whilst moving band equipment from Carlton church to Salem church an old bass drum was found. It
had markings on saying it was for the Silver Jubilee (50 years), and had a year on as 1946.
This means that there has been a Boys' Brigade Band in Halifax, back in 1896.
The Halifax Boys' Brigade Battalion was formed in 1906 when Elland Boys' Brigade joined in with the other
four companies in Halifax to make a Battalion.
So 2006 will be the 100th year since the formation of the Halifax Boys' Brigade Battalion, and the 'Battalion'
band, and 110 years since a band started in Halifax.
Back on the 19th October 1907 a conference was held with the Battalion Band Master regarding the best method
of working. It was resolved by dispensing the monthly practices and instead pay the expenses of the Band master and his
assistants to visit round each company band. It was decided only to have joint practices before a parade.
But before this in the August 1901 Halifax Officers Rules that 'All buglers and drummers practice
together once a month and an Officer be appointed to instruct them'.
